A sanctuary of haiku culture in Kyoto, Kofuku-ji is famously associated with the great poets Matsuo Basho and Yosa Buson.
Kofuku-ji is a temple of the Rinzai sect (Nanzen-ji school) located in the scenic Ichijoji area of Sakyo-ku, Kyoto. It was founded in 864 by An'e Sozu, following the wishes of Jikaku Daishi Ennin.
