Snow Resort Romance no Kamisama (formerly Kijimadaira Ski Resort) is a premier ski destination located in Kijimadaira Village, Shimotakai District, Nagano Prefecture. Situated on the northern slopes of Mount Kosha, the mountain's beautiful silhouette has earned it the nickname 'Takai Fuji' (Fuji of Takai). The resort is characterized by its vast, open slopes that cater to everyone from beginners to advanced skiers. The name itself is inspired by the bright and energetic atmosphere of the song 'Romance no Kamisama' by the famous artist Kimi Hirose, providing a lively and welcoming vibe for all visitors.
The resort has a long-standing history, having opened in 1963. Originally operated under a national/village management system, it transitioned to a third-sector model funded by Kijimadaira Village in 1993. In March 2022, a plan was announced to transfer management to the private sector as part of the village's tourism facility management plan. Subsequently, in March 2023, the resort was transferred to the SBC Medical Group, which also secured the rights to use the name 'Romance no Kamisama' from Kimi Hirose. This marks the beginning of a new era for the resort as a modern, branded destination.
The terrain is incredibly diverse. A standout feature is the 'Pioneer Course,' a non-groomed area with a maximum gradient of 46 degrees that descends rapidly from near the summit of Mount Kosha. The resort also offers wide, easy-to-navigate slopes and terrain parks, making it suitable for various skill levels. Additionally, the area connects to 'The Kijima Snow Park' (formerly Maki no Iri Snow Park) near the lift terminus, allowing for even more expansive winter activities.
The peak season is winter (December to March) for skiing and snowboarding. While most skiing happens under bright daylight, some facilities offer night skiing. However, the resort is equally charming in summer. Visitors can enjoy activities such as BBQ, swimming, sauna sessions, and stargazing under the beautiful night sky. The ability to experience the changing faces of Mount Kosha's nature throughout the year is the true strength of this resort.
In winter, besides skiing and snowboarding, there is a dedicated kids' park, making it an ideal destination for family leisure. For those traveling light, rental services are available for various equipment. In summer, the focus shifts to outdoor-centric experiences like BBQ, pool activities, and sauna sessions. Whether you are seeking high-speed descents or a relaxing summer day in nature, the resort provides a seamless way to connect with the environment.
The resort is located near other famous destinations such as Nozawa Onsen and Banabi Plateau. The Mount Kosha area is renowned for its rich natural landscapes and historic hot spring (onsen) towns. Combining a visit to the ski resort with a soak in a nearby onsen offers a truly complete Japanese mountain experience.
For winter sports, please ensure you have high-quality thermal wear, a helmet, goggles, and gloves. Note that some small items like hats, goggles, and gloves may be available for purchase rather than rental, so please check in advance. We recommend confirming whether credit cards are accepted at the facility before your arrival. When taking photos, please respect the privacy of other guests. The facility also features accessible entrances for wheelchair users.
