The Kewpie Kobe Factory Tour (Open Kitchen) is an interactive facility located in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, set within one of Kewpie's key production sites. The most significant feature is the opportunity to witness the production processes of iconic products like mayonnaise and dressings from a close vantage point. The experience is rich with educational content regarding vegetables, eggs, and the 'monozukuri' (craftsmanship) philosophy that the Kewpie Group uphsolds. It is a perfect way to learn about the technology and dedication behind the products found on everyday dining tables.
As a brand deeply rooted in Japanese food culture, Kewpie has long been dedicated to the production and popularity of mayonnaise and dressings. This Kobe factory serves not just as a production base, but as an 'Open Kitchen' designed to communicate product safety and the joy of food to consumers. It encapsulates the Japanese expertise and tradition of transforming natural blessings, such as vegetables and eggs, into safe and delicious products.
The tour consists of three main steps. First, in the hall, guests learn about vegetables, eggs, and the history and philosophy of Kewpie. Next, through a video presentation, you will visually understand the process of how mayonnaise and dressings are completed. Finally, you will tour the actual production lines. The highlight is experiencing the energy of the production site while receiving explanations from staff. The tour also includes a tasting session at the end of the process.
The factory tours are held in two sessions: morning (9:30–12:00) and afternoon (13:00–16:00). While the tour runs regardless of the season, please note that content may change due to production line status, natural disasters, or power outages. Because the facility maintains strict hygiene standards, the environment is kept at a constant temperature and humidity, ensuring a comfortable tour regardless of the weather outside.
The primary activities involve learning through video and live demonstrations. This includes studying the production process via video and observing the actual manufacturing lines. The experience is completed with a tasting session, allowing you to experience the appeal of the products through your sense of taste. Please note that the tour is designed for elementary school students and above; children younger than elementary school age must be accompanied by a guardian.
Located in Higashinada-ku, Kobe, the area is surrounded by the beautiful cityscape and port areas of Kobe. Before or after your tour, you can enjoy the local gourmet food and shopping-friendly atmosphere of the city. Access to the facility is easily available via public transportation from central Kobe.
