Kenritsu Shinrin Koen Myogisan Sakura no Sato is a sprawling park covering 47 hectares in Gunma Prefecture. Set against the majestic backdrop of Mt. Myogi, the park is home to approximately 4,000 cherry trees belonging to 45 different varieties. This incredible diversity means that visitors can enjoy different types of blossoms at slightly different times, offering a prolonged season of beauty. It is a beloved local destination where visitors can experience the profound changes of nature throughout the four seasons.
The park was developed to preserve the local natural environment and provide a space for people to connect with nature. Situated near the historically and visually significant Mt. Myogi, the park serves as a vital piece of the region's natural heritage. Through years of dedicated planting and maintenance of various cherry tree species, it has established itself as a premier destination for cherry blossom appreciation in the region.
The greatest draw is the sheer volume of cherry blossoms—about 4,000 trees in total. Because there are 45 different varieties, the blooming period is extended, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenery over a longer window of time. The striking contrast between the vibrant pink blossoms and the grand silhouette of Mt. Myogi is truly captivating. The vast grounds also offer numerous areas to observe diverse plant life and natural formations.
During the peak flowering season (approximately April 1st to May 10th), the operating hours change from the standard 9:00–16:30 to 8:30–17:00 to accommodate the crowds. This is the most vibrant time to visit when the variety of blossoms is at its peak. Even outside of spring, the park offers beautiful seasonal transitions. We recommend visiting during bright daylight hours to capture the most vivid colors of the cherry blossoms for photography.
Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls through the vast natural landscape. Depending on the season, the park may host specialized events such as photography workshops or traditional plant-dyeing classes. These activities offer a unique way to learn about the local flora and the mechanics of nature. During the cherry blossom season, the park provides a perfect setting to feel the rhythmic transition of the seasons.
The area surrounding Mt. Myogi is rich in natural beauty. The vicinity of the park is ideal for hiking and nature observation, making it a magnet for outdoor enthusiasts. Many seasonal activities in the area are closely linked to the natural environment and the changing seasons.
Due to the vast size of the park, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Please dress appropriately for the current season. Regarding payments, please note that many facilities, such as the management center, primarily accept cash; carrying Japanese Yen is recommended for a smooth experience. English signage and staff support are limited, so we suggest using translation apps if needed. Regarding parking, please be aware that during the peak blooming period (April 1st to April 30th), parking use for purposes other than hiking may be restricted. Wheelchair-accessible parking is available for those who need it.
