Kenmin Koen Taikozan Land is a large-scale prefectural park located in Imizu City, Toyama Prefecture. It opened on July 16, 1983, as the venue for the 'Nippon New Century Expo.' Recognized as one of Japan's top 100 urban parks, the vast grounds are surrounded by water and greenery, offering numerous facilities for recreation, sports, and cultural activities. The park is a beloved destination for all generations, featuring the popular sightseeing Road Train and various seasonal events.
The park was developed as a prefectural park to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Toyama Prefecture's establishment. Since its opening, it has served as a vital community space, and in 1989, it was selected as one of the '100 Best Urban Parks in Japan.' It also served as a significant venue for 'Japan Expo Toyama' in 1992. The park preserves elements of local history, including preserved railway vehicles that showcase its connection to transport history.
The park is dotted with diverse recreational facilities. A standout attraction is the steam locomotive-style 'Road Train' that circles the park, a favorite among both children and adults. Depending on the season, visitors can enjoy the waterfront plaza, the seasonal swimming pool area, or the BBQ corners. Additionally, the observation tower provides a wonderful vantage point to enjoy the expansive views of the surrounding landscape.
Activities change beautifully with the seasons. During the summer (pool operation period), the park extends its operating hours until 18:00, allowing for late afternoon activities. From May to June, visitors can enjoy the hydrangea festival and view the blooming flowers. In autumn, the park may host traditional events like the 'Sagicho' festival. There is no shortage of ways to enjoy the outdoors here. At the cycling center, you can rent mountain bikes or electric bicycles to explore the vast grounds (excluding winter months). Families can enjoy dining at the BBQ corners or participating in fun activities like stamp rallies. Even just riding the Road Train offers a delightful, relaxing way to experience the scale of the park.
The park is nestled within the rich natural environment of Imizu City. The surrounding area features beautiful coastal and agricultural landscapes unique to Toyama. While the park is accessible via train and bus from Kosugi Station, we highly recommend using a car or public transport to navigate the large grounds efficiently and comfortably.
Because the park is quite large, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. If you plan on cycling or BBQing, wear active, easy-to-move-in clothing. For the Road Train, tickets can be purchased via automatic vending machines or from the conductor. Please respect the natural environment and follow park rules. Additionally, please stay informed of local safety notices, such as any alerts regarding wildlife (bears) in the area.
