Kawazu Town, along with the neighboring Higashiizu Town, is recognized as a major production center for carnations in Shizuoka Prefecture. The Kawazu Carnation Exhibition Garden is a specialized facility that encapsulates the exquisite beauty of these flowers. It showcases approximately 11,100 plants and 209 varieties, including rare cultivars that are seldom found in commercial markets. Because the collection is housed within a greenhouse, visitors can enjoy the changing expressions of the flowers regardless of the weather or the season, making it a reliable destination for a beautiful floral experience.
Carnation cultivation has long been a vital industry for Kawazu Town. The region holds a high market share for carnation shipments within the prefecture, driven by years of advancing cultivation techniques and variety improvement. The Exhibition Garden serves more than just a tourist attraction; it acts as a center for displaying and researching agricultural technology and diverse plant varieties. It is a hub for passing down the local carnation culture to visitors.

The greatest draw is the overwhelming variety and richness of colors. The sight of rare varieties, which are rarely seen in standard flower shops, blooming abundantly inside the greenhouse is truly spectacular. From deep reds and soft pinks to white and rare intermediate hues, the color gradients are a dream for photography enthusiasts. Additionally, the greenhouse environment allows for a comfortable, detailed observation of the flowers even during cold or rainy days, offering a unique and relaxing experience.
The garden is typically open from February to May. The period between February and March often coincides with the famous Kawazu Cherry Blossom season, creating a magnificent landscape where spring arrives in full bloom. Early morning is an excellent time for photography, as the plants appear most vibrant and the light enters the greenhouse beautifully. The afternoon is also a wonderful time to spend a relaxing moment, as the greenhouse maintains a stable, pleasant temperature.

Occasionally, the garden offers limited quantities of flower arrangements for sale. This is a precious opportunity to take a piece of this floral beauty home with you. Please note, however, that individual cut flowers are not sold; only specific, limited-edition arrangements are available. You can experience the essence of floral beauty and cultivation technology through all your senses.
Kawazu Town is also highly famous for its 'Kawazu Sakura' (cherry blossoms). During the spring, it is common to combine a visit to the carnation garden with a stroll along the cherry blossom-lined paths of the Kawazu River. The entire Izu Peninsula is blessed with hot springs and coastal scenery, making this a very convenient base for your travels.
Since you will be walking through a greenhouse, comfortable clothing is recommended regardless of the season. As there can be a temperature difference between the outside air and the greenhouse interior (especially in early spring), it is wise to wear layers. To protect the plants, please follow the etiquette of not touching or picking the flowers. For admission, please note that cash is required. Having small change ready will make your entry smoother.
