The Lake Kawaguchiko Momiji (Maple) Corridor is a renowned autumn foliage spot located on the northern shore of Lake Kawaguchiko in Fujikawaguchiko Town, Yamanashi Prefecture. Approximately 70 maple trees, including some over 100 years old, line the banks of the Nashigawa River. During the autumn season, it serves as the main venue for the 'Fuji Kawaguchiko Autumn Leaves Festival,' where visitors can enjoy the breathtaking harmony of colorful maple leaves and the majestic silhouette of Mt. Fuji.
This area has long been cherished as a scenic spot offering stunning views of Mt. Fuji. Every autumn, the 'Fuji Kawaguchiko Autumn Leaves Festival' is held to celebrate the changing seasons. This event is designed to showcase the region's natural abundance, drawing many tourists who come to enjoy local culture, seasonal flavors, and the profound beauty of the landscape.
The greatest attraction is the natural tunnel created by the maple trees lining both sides of the river. From early to mid-November, the trees turn brilliant shades of red and orange, creating a spectacular view alongside the flowing river. Recently, the 'Oku-no-Hosomichi' area has been developed to allow visitors to enjoy the foliage while avoiding the densest crowds. The 'Maple Tunnel' is also a highly popular spot for photography enthusiasts.
The peak season for autumn colors is from early to mid-November. You can enjoy the vivid colors of the trees during the day and a magical atmosphere through light illuminations in the evening. The illumination is scheduled to run from sunset (around 4:30 PM) until approximately 9:30 PM. The night view, where the illuminated foliage contrasts with the dark silhouette of Mt. Fuji, offers a completely different charm than the daytime.
During the Autumn Leaves Festival, numerous food stalls and craft markets are set up around the venue. This is a wonderful opportunity to taste local gourmet delicacies and discover traditional crafts. Additionally, nearby facilities such as the 'Kawaguchiko Craft Park' and the 'Itchiku Kubota Art Museum' allow you to combine your foliage viewing with cultural experiences and relaxing breaks in nature.
Many famous attractions are located near the venue. These include the 'Itchiku Kubota Art Museum,' known for its fusion of nature and architecture, and the 'Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum.' The Lake Kawaguchiko area is also well-equipped with numerous hotels and hot spring (onsen) facilities, making it easy to plan a stay to fully enjoy the autumn scenery.
As the temperature drops significantly in the Kawaguchiko area during autumn, especially in the evenings, it is highly recommended to bring warm clothing such as a heavy jacket or coat. For smoother movement through crowds or uneven paths, using a baby carrier instead of a stroller may be more convenient.
