Kasai Rinkai Park is a sprawling waterfront park located in Edogawa Ward, facing the beautiful Tokyo Bay. Built around the theme of "Where greenery, water, and people meet," it serves as a vital space for nature observation, leisure, and relaxation. The park features diverse areas such as the Kasai Sea Life Park (Aquarium), the Diamond and Flower Ferris Wheel, a bird sanctuary, and sandy beaches. This creates an expansive environment where visitors can feel the vastness of the sea and sky while remaining close to the urban center. It is one of Tokyo's representative large-scale parks designed to balance environmental conservation with recreation.
The park was developed as part of the Kasai Offshore Development and Land Readjustment Project, which began in January 1985. A portion of the park, approximately 38 hectares, opened in 1989. Since then, the park has evolved through several stages: the Bird Sanctuary zone opened in 1994, the Crystal View observation rest house in 1995, and the iconic Ferris wheel in 2001. This phased development has resulted in the multi-functional, high-quality waterfront destination that exists today, showcasing a successful history of urban development and coexistence with nature.
The park is dotted with various specialized facilities and natural environments. First, the "Bird Sanctuary" allows you to observe the delicate ecosystem of the waterfront up close. Second, the "Diamond and Flower Ferris Wheel" offers a breathtaking panoramic view of Tokyo Bay and the surrounding cityscape from high above. Third, the sandy beach areas, known as "Nishi-nagisa" and "Higashi-nagisa," provide a perfect setting to enjoy the rhythmic waves. Additionally, the proximity to the Kasai Sea Life Park means visitors can enjoy both professional marine exhibits and natural outdoor leisure in one trip.
The park's appearance changes beautifully with the seasons. In spring, you can enjoy Kawazu cherry blossoms and cosmos flowers; in summer, vibrant sunflower beds add color to the landscape; and in autumn, cosmos flowers bloom beautifully. In winter, narcissus flowers can be seen. The scenery also shifts throughout the day—while the bright blue skies of midday are stunning, the sunset over the ocean is particularly magical. Facilities like the Bird Sanctuary Watching Center are most active during bright daylight hours.
There are many ways to enjoy the park. You can ride the Park Train to move around the vast grounds or take the "Tokyo Mizube Line" water bus to approach the park from the sea via Odaiba or Ryogoku. For those looking to enjoy a meal outdoors, the BBQ areas (reservation required) are perfect for families and groups. Whether it is observing wildlife, enjoying the sea breeze, or simply riding the park's transportation, the park offers a variety of engaging activities.
The park is adjacent to Kaihin Park and covers a very wide area. It is also connected to the Odaiba area via the water bus, allowing for a seamless waterfront sightseeing experience across Tokyo Bay. The area is well-served by public transportation, including local buses and the JR Keiyo Line.
