Kano Castle Ruins Park, located in Kano Town, Tottori City, is a park featuring the remains of a castle from the Sengoku (Warring States) period. As the former seat of the Kamei clan, the site preserves the sophisticated fortification techniques of the era, visible in the stone walls, inner moats, and outer moats located at the summit. Today, it serves as a well-maintained urban park and a peaceful retreat for locals and tourists alike. The park is particularly famous during the spring, when approximately 500 Yoshino cherry trees bloom in full, creating a breathtaking landscape where the ancient stone walls and pink blossoms harmonize beautifully.
The site contains the ruins of a castle built by Kamei Katsunori during the Sengoku period. The structural layout, including the high stone walls and defensive moats, serves as a testament to the strategic military importance of this location in the past. Furthermore, the surrounding 'Kano Orai' castle town preserves the architectural legacy of the town planning established under the Kamei clan's rule. This deep historical background elevates the park from a simple recreational space to a significant cultural heritage site that tells the story of the region.
The greatest highlight is the view from the stone walls standing tall on the hilltop. Visitors can observe the remains of the castle structure and the defensive features that utilized the natural terrain. In spring, the roughly 500 cherry trees create a stunning 'cherry blossom tunnel' and a beautiful contrast against the grey stone walls. The view looking down toward the castle town is also highly recommended, offering a sense of stepping back in time through the scenic landscape.
The most highly recommended time to visit is spring (late March to early April) when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. During this period, the entire park is bathed in pink, creating a highly photogenic scene against the historical backdrop. Because the scenery changes with the depth of green in summer or the colors of the sky, visiting on a clear, sunny day is ideal. We recommend visiting during daylight hours to clearly observe the intricate details of the stone walls and the surrounding townscape.

As the park features significant elevation changes, we strongly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. While the park is open and free, please note that cash may be required for nearby facilities or parking. No prior reservation is needed. Photography is free and encouraged, but please be respectful of other visitors and the surrounding environment. Please be mindful of uneven surfaces and steps when walking through the ruins.
