Kajikawa Chisui Kinen Park is located along the Kajikawa River in Shibata City, Niigata Prefecture. This location holds a prestigious history; it was once celebrated with the phrase "Ten miles of long embankments, the best in the world," referring to the immense beauty of its cherry blossom rows. Today, the park has been beautifully restored with approximately 2,000 cherry trees, offering a spectacular view of blooming blossoms in the spring. The presence of the water gate adds a unique architectural charm to the riverside landscape.
The region once boasted an incredible sight of approximately 6,000 cherry trees stretching for dozens of kilometers, a view considered among the finest in Japan and even the world. However, due to heavy flooding in 1966 and 1967 and subsequent river improvements, many of these trees were lost. In recent years, through local revitalization efforts, the cherry blossom rows have been reborn. The current 2,000 trees stand as a symbol of the area's resilience and its deep connection to the river's history.
