Kaikyo Yume Tower is a landmark observation tower located along the Kanmon Straits in Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The tower features a spherical observation room at its summit, offering a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view. Its greatest appeal is the ability to observe the vast sea stretching from the Seto Inland Sea to the Sea of Japan from a high vantage point.
This facility was established as a landmark for the Kanmon Straits. With a design that harmonizes beautifully with the surrounding landscape, it serves as a symbol of the region. From the observation deck, visitors can gaze upon the scenery of the straits that has served as a significant historical stage, making it a place where nature and history intersect.

The most striking feature is the spherical observation room composed of three levels. The floor-to-ceiling glass walls provide an unobstructed view of the surroundings. From here, you can observe the landscape connecting Kyushu and Honshu across the Kanmon Straits, the silhouette of the historic Ganryujima Island, and the beautiful color gradients of the Seto Inland Sea reaching toward the horizon. At night, the area is beautifully illuminated, offering a spectacular view of the city lights.
The character of the straits changes significantly depending on the time of day. During the day, you can enjoy the beautiful contrast between the blue sky and the deep blue sea. At dusk, the sunset over the Hibiki-nada Sea creates a deeply emotional and picturesque atmosphere. At night, a dazzling landscape of lights unfolds. While the start time for illuminations varies by season, they generally begin around 19:00 during January, April, July, October, and November, and around 19:30 during February, May, August, and September. The views can be enjoyed until 21:30.
To reach the observation deck, visitors take an elevator that allows you to enjoy the changing scenery as you ascend. This provides a unique perspective of the dynamic movement of the straits from a height different from the ground level. Additionally, the surrounding area often hosts seasonal events and activities for children.
The area around the tower is a central hub for tourism in Shimonoseki. Nearby facilities like Kaikyo Messe Shimonoseki allow you to enjoy sightseeing alongside the local scenery. For those traveling by car, there is convenient access via the 1st Parking Lot (indoor) and the 2nd Parking Lot (outdoor), making it an ideal base for your travels.
As the scenery changes with the weather and time of day, we recommend bringing sun protection for daytime visits and dressing appropriately for temperature changes during evening visits. If using the 1st Parking Lot, please note that a 2-hour parking service voucher system is available. Large vehicles should use the 2nd Parking Lot. We kindly ask visitors to maintain a quiet and respectful atmosphere while enjoying the views inside the observation room.
