Kaida Kogen Mia Ski Resort is located in Kiso Town, Kiso District, Nagano Prefecture. The name "MIA" is derived from the Latin phrase "Memoria In Aeterna," meaning "Forever in Memory." With the highest point of the slopes reaching 2,120 meters, the low temperatures ensure a world-class powder snow quality that is among the best in Japan. Beyond the winter season, the area transforms into the "Shinshu Kaida Kogen Mia Green Field" during the summer, offering a beautiful camping experience where you can immerse yourself in the untouched nature of the highlands.
The resort was established in December 1996 through the efforts of the Kaida Kogen Development Co., Ltd., a third-sector company involving the Nagano Prefecture, the former Kaida Village, and Shimizu Corporation. Since 2002, the management has undergone transitions, leading to the current operational structure under the Asmo Group and subsequent management transfers. It remains a deeply rooted facility that has long been cherished by both passionate skiers and camping enthusiasts.
The ski area features 6 distinct courses with a maximum descent length of 3,200m, catering to everyone from beginners to advanced riders. Specific courses include the Jumbo Foot Slopes (North and South), the Foxy Course, and the Prima Course (suitable for beginners and intermediate skiers), as well as the Sky High Course and Blue Diamond Course (designed for intermediate and advanced skiers). For younger visitors, a kids' area with a magic carpet is available on holidays. The resort is equipped with three lifts: the 1st High-Speed Quad Lift, the 2nd High-Speed Pair Lift, and the 3rd Pair Lift (currently out of service).
In winter (December to March), the focus is on skiing and snowboarding with high-quality powder snow. Even in late March, you can often experience spectacular snow conditions. In summer (July to October), the campsite opens, providing a cool and refreshing environment for camping. The area is also an exceptional spot for stargazing at night. Please note that ski operations are limited to daytime hours, and there are no night skiing sessions.
Winter offers high-intensity skiing and snowboarding, while summer provides a relaxing camping experience. The campsite offers various options, including partitioned sites and free auto-camping sites, making it easy to stay with passenger cars, trailers, or campervans. The ground consists of grass and soil, allowing for a truly authentic stay in the heart of nature.
Within the resort, you can find the Center House and the restaurant "Symphony," as well as the rotating rest house "TEE HORN." The surrounding Kaida Kogen area offers a serene environment typical of the Japanese highlands, perfect for a peaceful getaway.
For skiing and snowboarding, heavy thermal clothing and windproof gear are essential. When camping in summer, please prepare for significant temperature fluctuations between day and night. The resort offers 1,000 free parking spaces available 24 hours a day. If you are arriving via public transport, please check the shuttle bus schedules from JR Kiso-Fukushima Station.
