Tsukuba Expo Science Park is a vast park located in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture. Themed around the fusion of nature and science, this park is characterized by its wide-open spaces, providing a perfect environment for visitors to relax and refresh. With its beautiful ponds and expansive lawn areas, it is an ideal place to forget the hustle and bustle of daily life and enjoy a peaceful moment.
This park was developed on the site of the 1985 International Science and Technology Exposition (Tsukuba Expo '85). It carries the historical legacy of the rapid development of science and technology, while currently serving as a beloved community space that preserves the memories of that era amidst a lush, natural setting.

The most iconic feature of the park is the 'Science Gate,' which stands 10 meters tall. This gate has a unique structure that changes its appearance depending on the angle from which you view it, making it a true landmark. Additionally, the park features beautiful ponds and an iris garden where you can enjoy the changing scenery of the four seasons. The wide-open lawns provide a sense of immense freedom and a breathtaking view of the landscape.
While the park offers beautiful natural changes throughout the year, it is particularly stunning from spring to summer when the greenery becomes vibrant and the beauty of the ponds and iris gardens is at its peak. During the bright daylight hours, the reflection on the water and the lush greenery make it an excellent spot for photography. At dusk, the entire park is bathed in a soft, gentle light, creating a very calm and serene atmosphere.

You can fully immerse yourself in nature within this vast area. Activities include strolling around the perimeter of the ponds or simply relaxing on the wide lawns. The park is also equipped with all-weather tennis courts, allowing you to enjoy sports regardless of the weather. It is a wonderful place to spend quality time with family or friends while relaxing in a natural environment.
Tsukuba City is renowned as a 'Science City,' home to numerous prestigious research institutions. The area surrounding the park is dotted with facilities related to science and technology, allowing visitors to enjoy sightseeing while feeling the history of scientific progress. The rich natural environment of the Tsukuba area makes this park a highly recommended stop on any local sightseeing route.

Because the park is very large, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. To ensure a comfortable visit, it is wise to bring a hat for sun protection and sufficient drinking water.
