Jogakura Ohashi is one of Japan's most impressive through-arch bridges, located in Aomori Prefecture. With a total length of 360 meters and a height of 122 meters, its massive scale and the way it spans the sheer cliffs create a truly dynamic and dramatic presence. From the top of the bridge, visitors can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view that stretches across the Hakkoda mountain range, the cityscape of Aomori, and even as far as Mount Iwaki. Below the bridge, the lush Jogakura Stream flows through a deep valley, creating a perfect harmony between man-made engineering and the raw beauty of nature.
The region has long been defined by its rugged terrain and challenging weather conditions, preserving a pristine natural environment. The area where Jogakura Ohashi stands is characterized by steep, untouched landscapes. The bridge's through-arch structure is not only a feat of engineering but also serves as a significant local landmark, symbolizing the strength and beauty of the Hakkoda mountain region.

The greatest attraction is the expansive view from the bridge. The scenery changes dramatically with the seasons, most notably during the autumn foliage season when the mountains are painted in vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow. In winter, the area transforms into a serene, white wonderland of snow, offering a completely different kind of beauty. There are parking areas and rest areas located at both ends of the bridge, allowing visitors to park their vehicles and take a moment to soak in the view.
Jogakura Ohashi offers a different face to visitors throughout the year. Autumn (around October to November) is the peak season for autumn colors, attracting many photographers and tourists seeking the best views. In summer, the lush greenery is refreshing, while winter offers a magical, snow-covered landscape. Please note that during the winter season, road closures may occur at night due to heavy snowfall, so it is highly recommended to check local traffic conditions before your visit.

The best way to experience this site is through a scenic drive. After parking at either end of the bridge, visitors typically step out to breathe in the fresh mountain air and admire the scale of the mountains. Please be aware that walking down into the stream area is strictly prohibited due to the dangerous terrain. Instead, focus your attention on the magnificent views from the bridge and the designated observation points.
The area surrounding the bridge is rich in natural beauty. There are nearby hot spring (onsen) facilities, which are a perfect way to relax after a drive through the mountains. Since the area is primarily accessible by car, it is best enjoyed as part of a larger scenic driving route through Aomori.
Weather conditions in this area can change rapidly. It is essential to bring clothing suitable for the current season, especially warm layers for the autumn and winter months. While there are parking spaces at both ends of the bridge, they are limited, so please allow plenty of time for your journey. Most importantly, please respect the safety rules: walking in the stream bed is prohibited. Please enjoy the scenery from the designated viewing areas and the bridge itself.
