The Jo fuku Cycle Road is a dedicated pedestrian and bicycle path spanning approximately 5 kilometers, developed on the site of the former JNR Saga Line. Because it utilizes a historical railway route, the path is characterized by gentle slopes and straight sections, making it an incredibly safe and easy route for beginners, families, and casual strollers. Since it is a dedicated path away from motor vehicles, you can enjoy a peaceful and safe journey through the countryside.
The most fascinating aspect of this route is its origin. This path was once a functioning railway line under the Japanese National Railways (JNR) Saga Line. Following its decommissioning in 1991, the land was revitalized into a recreational space for local residents and visitors to promote health and leisure. Today, it serves as a beautiful way to experience the history of the region while enjoying modern cycling and walking activities.
Visitors can enjoy the changing scenery of the seasons throughout the course. The most spectacular time to visit is during the spring, when the path is lined with cherry blossom trees. During full bloom, you will feel as if you are riding through a beautiful tunnel of pink blossoms. Additionally, because the path follows a former railway line, the unique topography and the subtle traces of the old railway infrastructure provide a nostalgic and charming atmosphere.
The best time to visit is from March to April when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. This period makes the cycling experience truly magical. While daytime is the best time to enjoy the bright and beautiful scenery, early morning or late afternoon are also excellent times for a quiet, serene stroll. While the path is available year-round, we highly recommend visiting during the spring to witness the seasonal transformation of the landscape.
