Kanno Park is a scenic urban park located at 4-1-3 Kannoen, Saga City, Saga Prefecture. The site holds significant historical value, as it was originally the location of the villa of Naomasa Nabeshima, the 10th lord of the Saga Clan, built in 1846. The park was officially gifted to Saga City in 1923. Situated on the west side of the Tafuse River, the park features a large central pond, a traditional Japanese garden, a small zoo, and a children's amusement park, offering a tranquil escape within the city.
The park's history is deeply rooted in the Edo period, originating from the villa of the Saga lord Naomasa Nabeshima. Visitors can find the statue of Shinpei Eto and experience the architectural heritage through the 'Kanno Ochaya' tea house and the 'Kakurintei' teahouse, which has been meticulously restored. These elements serve as a living testament to the region's rich cultural and political history.
The park offers breathtaking scenery that changes with the seasons. In spring, the cherry blossom trees create a stunning pink canopy over the paths. Near the central pond, visitors can observe wildlife, including dragonflies at 'Tonbo Pond.' The small zoo provides a chance to see various birds and rabbits. For younger visitors, the amusement area features approximately nine different rides, including a mini jet coaster and a charming miniature steam locomotive (SL) that circles the park.
The peak season is from March to April, when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, making it a spectacular time for photography and strolls. While the park grounds are open 24 hours a day, please note that the operating hours for specific facilities like the amusement park and zoo may vary. It is highly recommended to check the current status of these facilities before your visit.
Kanno Park is a place for both relaxation and active play. The children's amusement park is designed specifically for preschoolers and younger children, featuring the popular miniature steam locomotive. Adjacent to the park is the Saga City Traffic Park, where children can experience a simulated road environment with intersections and signals to practice cycling in a safe setting.
Next to Kanno Park lies the 'Saga City Traffic Park,' a facility established in 1970 that allows children to ride bicycles through a miniature urban environment. The park's location along the Tafuse River provides a refreshing atmosphere with the gentle sound of flowing water nearby.
While the park is an open public space, we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes for exploring the various paths. Please be prepared with cash if you intend to use the amusement park rides or specific facilities. The park is accessible, featuring wheelchair-friendly entrances and dedicated parking spaces.
