Jet Coaster Road (Jet Coaster no Saka) is a road located on West 11-sen in Kamifurano, Hokkaido. The name comes from the way the road rises and falls sharply over undulating hills, creating a sensation similar to a roller coaster. The total length of the straight road is approximately 2.5 kilometers (though it can reach about 4.2 km if including sections that may be closed in winter). With a maximum elevation difference of about 65 meters, the northern half alone provides a thrilling experience with three major ups and downs.
This area is part of the Tokachi-dake Geopark. Geologically, the road is built upon undulating hills, a landscape feature known as wavy hills. By preserving the natural topography, the road provides a unique visual and physical experience for tourists and drivers alike. It is recognized as a landmark that symbolizes the unique topographical characteristics of the region.

The greatest appeal is the continuous sequence of ups and downs experienced while driving. In the northern section, the terrain causes three significant vertical movements. Additionally, the road offers a panoramic view of the Tokachi Mountain Range, allowing visitors to enjoy the vast, expansive landscapes typical of Hokkaido. The constant change between open vistas and the momentary concealment of the view by the terrain makes the drive truly unique.
The road is accessible from March to October. For the best experience of the undulating landscape from your car window, a clear sunny day during daylight hours is ideal. Please note that during winter, there is a high possibility of icy road surfaces, requiring extreme caution. While the surrounding scenery changes with the seasons, the road is generally accessible year-round, though driving conditions vary.
The primary activity is scenic driving and sightseeing from your vehicle. Because it is a straight road, the landscape changes rapidly, providing a dynamic sensation. You can also use the roadside spaces to take photographs with the Tokachi Mountain Range as a majestic backdrop. However, as this is a functional roadway, please ensure that any stopping or photography is done in designated safe areas and does not obstruct traffic.
The area is surrounded by the natural beauty of the Tokachi-dake Geopark and serves as a gateway to famous tourist destinations like Biei and Furano. You can easily incorporate this scenic drive into a larger Hokkaido itinerary involving nearby sightseeing facilities in Kamifurano.
As this is a public road, there are no specific requirements for clothing or belongings, but it is highly recommended to dress for changing weather conditions. There are no fees to use the road itself. Since English signage is limited, we recommend using a digital map or GPS for navigation. It is strictly forbidden to enter nearby farmland or private property. Please drive carefully, avoid excessive speed, and remain vigilant in areas with poor visibility.
