Iwamotozan Park is a vast 13.2-hectare natural park located at the summit of a 193m hill on the western side of Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture. History and Cultural Background
The cherry blossoms in the park hold a special historical significance. In 1923 (Taisho 12), graduates of the local Fuji City Iwamatsu Elementary School planted trees with the hope that the mountain would one day become a place filled with blooming cherry blossoms. A commemorative monument remains today to honor this legacy. Nearly a century later, the dream has been realized, with thousands of visitors enjoying the blossoms annually. Furthermore, the area is deeply connected to local culture; at the foot of the mountain lies Jisso-ji, a head temple of the Nichiren sect, with the hiking path serving as the approach to the temple.
