Iwaki River Riverside Park is a nature-rich park located in Itayanagi Town, Kitatsun Tsugaru District, Aomori Prefecture. The greatest charm of this location lies in the stunning contrast between the majestic silhouette of Mount Iwaki and the vibrant cherry blossoms that bloom in spring. Along the banks of the Iwaki River, this well-maintained park allows visitors to experience the changing expressions of nature throughout the seasons.
This area has long been blessed with abundant natural resources. Mount Iwaki, in particular, has drawn many people over the centuries with its beautiful form. The surrounding area is famous for apple cultivation; thus, the sight of white apple blossoms spreading across the landscape in spring is a unique cultural scenery specific to this region. The park is also recognized as one of the "Sakura Post Stations" of the Tohoku Dream Sakura Road, serving as an important spot for showcasing the natural beauty of the region.
The park features approximately 99 cherry trees, including various types such as Somei Yoshino, weeping cherry (Shidarezakura), and Yaezakura. When these bloom simultaneously, the entire landscape is transformed into a brilliant spectacle. The backdrop of Mount Iwaki, often still wearing its crown of snow, creates a breathtaking contrast against the blue sky. Additionally, the sight of the surrounding apple orchards covered in white blossoms during spring is a distinctive feature of this area.
The most beautiful period to visit is from late April to mid-May during the peak cherry blossom season. During this time, you can witness the perfect harmony of full bloom and the majestic Mount Iwaki. You can also enjoy the natural scenery in October. A typical visit of about 30 minutes is sufficient for a pleasant stroll through the scenery.
Visitors can enjoy a relaxing stroll while listening to the gentle murmur of the Iwaki River. The scenery of cherry blossoms with Mount Iwaki in the background is a highly sought-after subject for photography enthusiasts. Furthermore, nearby facilities like the apple museum allow you to experience the local agricultural culture firsthand.
Nearby, you can find Kando Shrine, which is just a few minutes' walk away. Other facilities such as the Itayanagi Town Furusato Center (Apple Museum) and family cottages are also within walking distance, making it an ideal environment for families and tourists to enjoy the local culture and nature from multiple perspectives.
We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes for exploring the park. Please prepare clothing suitable for the seasonal temperature changes.
