The area is known as 'Italian Hill' because an Italian consulate was established here from 1880 to 1886. The history of this site dates back to the establishment of the Italian consulate in the late 19th century. The garden features several historic buildings that have been relocated or reconstructed. For instance, 'Bluff No. 18,' featuring a French tile roof, was added in 1993, and the 'Diplomat's House,' a relocated residence of a Meiji-era diplomat, was added in 1997. These structures serve as vital cultural heritage sites that preserve the history of the former foreign settlement. Furthermore, the garden shares an international connection through the roses gifted by its sister city, Lyon, France.
