Isso Beach is located adjacent to the port town of Isso, situated at the northernmost tip of Yakushima Island. This area is highly regarded within Kagoshima Prefecture for its exceptional water quality; the clarity is so high that you can easily see the seabed topography and rocks from the surface.
Isso is a quiet fishing village in northern Yakushima that has lived in harmony with the sea for generations. This beach has long been a beloved spot for locals to enjoy the natural environment. The peak season for swimming is typically from mid-July to August 31st. During this period, the beach becomes lively with various stalls and shops, creating a vibrant atmosphere. For the best experience, visit during the bright daylight hours when the water transparency is at its peak—this is the optimal time for snorkeling and diving. In the late afternoon, you can also enjoy the serene way the colors of the sky change along the coastline.

When planning your beach day, please prepare swimwear, sandals, a change of clothes, sunscreen, and a towel. We strongly recommend wearing water shoes to protect your feet from rocks or sand. While basic facilities like toilets, changing rooms, and showers are available, please note that many nearby shops and services may only accept cash. For photography, please be mindful of other visitors to ensure a pleasant environment for everyone. Regarding accessibility, please be aware that the sandy terrain may present challenges for wheelchair users due to uneven surfaces and steps.
