Ishibe Sakura is a historic single cherry tree located in Ikki-machi, Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture, with an estimated age of approximately 650 years. This specific variety is an Edohigan cherry, characterized by a unique structure where ten different trunks converge to support a massive canopy reaching up to 20 meters in width. The tree gained significant fame after being featured in the opening sequence of the NHK Taiga drama 'Yae no Sakura,' making it a celebrated symbol of the Aizu region. Surrounded by peaceful rice fields, the tree exerts a powerful presence as it blooms amidst the lush greenery of spring.
The history of this tree is deeply rooted in the local heritage.
