The Isedotai Archaeological Site, located in Kitaakita City, Akita Prefecture, is a highly significant archaeological site representing the late Jomon period. It is recognized as a component part of the UNESCO World Heritage site, "Jomon Prehistoric Sites in Northern Japan." Its historical value is immense, characterized by the presence of four distinct stone circles (stone circles). The discovery of multiple stone circles of this scale is extremely rare, making it an invaluable resource for understanding the beliefs, rituals, and social structures of the people living at that time.
This site is believed to have been a place for rituals and ceremonies approximately 4,000 years ago during the late Jomon period. The remains include not only the stone circles but also stone arrangements, post-hole structures, pit dwellings, and burial sites. These features suggest that the area served as more than just a residential space; it was a sacred ground for ancestor worship and spiritual ceremonies. The precise arrangement of the stone circles reflects the worldview and spiritual culture of the Jomon people, showcasing a sophisticated social system that lived in harmony with nature.

To protect the stone remains, the outdoor areas of the site are closed during the winter season from November to mid-April. Therefore, we recommend visiting between spring and autumn to experience the historical landscape in its full glory. The seasons of fresh greenery in spring and the clear skies of autumn are especially beautiful, as the harmony between the natural environment and the ancient ruins creates a deeply immersive atmosphere. Visiting during bright daylight hours is ideal for clearly observing the outdoor remains and enjoying photography or a peaceful stroll.
