Ise Sea Paradise is an aquarium located in Futami-cho, Ise City, Mie Prefecture. Its most striking feature is the 'zero-distance' exhibition style, where there are virtually no fences separating visitors from the marine life. The facility originally opened in 1965 as the 'Futamiura Tourist Center.' Its history as an aquarium began in 1966, and since then, it has undergone several changes in name and facility structure. Formerly operated by the Meitetsu Group, it is currently managed by Ise Meoto Iwa Paradise Co., Ltd. In October 2024, it was officially renamed to its current name, 'Ise Sea Paradise Zero-Distance Aquarium.' For many years, it has been a beloved hub for local tourism.
The aquarium features various pinnipeds, including spotted seals, sea lions, and walruses. One of the biggest highlights is the performance shows, where animals climb onto a stage in the public area to interact with the audience. You can witness unique personalities through moments like 'handshakes' with smooth-coated otters or the famous 'Dolphin Catch Ball' where dolphins play with a ball. The seahorse exhibition is also extensive, allowing you to observe many different species.
While the aquarium is enjoyable year-round, the animals' activities change depending on the season and time of day.
