Irida Yanagi Forest is a natural willow grove located near the upstream of the Tetsutetsu Bridge, downstream of the Shimanto River in Shimanto City, Kochi Prefecture. The most striking feature of this location is the sight of Manjusaka (Red Spider Lilies) blooming in full glory within the natural willow forest. From mid to late September, the vibrant red flowers emerge from beneath the green willow leaves, creating a mystical landscape that looks like a red carpet spread across the ground under the soft, dappled sunlight.
This area has coexisted with the natural environment of the Shimanto River for generations. The preservation of the natural willow forest makes this spot a symbol of the local natural landscape. The blooming season of the Manjusaka is a significant time for the local community, marking a seasonal cycle that brings a sense of time passing through the changing colors of nature.

The absolute highlight is the blooming of the Manjusaka between mid and late September. The contrast between the soft light filtering through the willow leaves and the brilliant red of the flowers attracts photography enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Within the approximately 1km stretch of natural forest, the sight of the landscape turning entirely red is a precious view that can only be witnessed during this specific period.
The most recommended time to visit is during the 'Manjusaka' season from mid to late September. During the day, the sunlight filtering through the trees illuminates the flowers, making the colors appear even more vivid. In the late afternoon, as the sun begins to set, the atmosphere becomes even more ethereal and tranquil. It is highly recommended to check the current blooming status before your visit.
Visitors can enjoy a peaceful stroll through nature, feeling the subtle shifts in the seasons. Within the unique atmosphere created by the natural willow forest, you can spend a quiet moment admiring the beautiful flowers. It is a perfect place to engage your senses, enjoy the natural forms, and capture the seasonal colors with a camera.
