Lake Iizuna (Kami-no-kuraiike) is a serene lake located in the Iizuna Highland of Nagano City, Nagano Prefecture. Positioned slightly inside the forest area beyond the bird line, it is characterized by a quiet, natural environment surrounded by lush greenery. During autumn, the surrounding trees turn vibrant colors, creating a magnificent view as the scenery reflects beautifully on the lake's surface. It is a well-known spot for activities such as fishing and nature observation.
This region has long been cherished as a nature-rich highland area. The environment around Lake Iizuna (Kami-no-kuraiike) maintains a natural landscape that changes its expression with every season, serving as a vital element of the local natural scenery. While there are no specific historical buildings, the area stands as a symbol of the rich natural environment that defines Nagano Prefecture.
The greatest scenic point is the autumn foliage season. The vibrant colors of the leaves decorate the lakeshore, creating a seasonal landscape that can only be seen on the water's surface during this time. Because the lake is nestled deep within the forest, visitors can enjoy the unique vegetation and the profound silence of nature. The changing seasons significantly alter the expression and atmosphere of the site.
The most dramatic changes occur during the autumn foliage season from October to November. During this period, the trees turn shades of red and yellow, making the lakeshore exceptionally colorful. Regarding the best time to visit, the early morning hours are highly recommended; the stillness of the air often results in the lake surface acting like a perfect mirror, reflecting the scenery with incredible clarity.
This area is an excellent location for enjoying fishing. Additionally, the surrounding environment is well-suited for leisurely walks and nature observation. You can feel the seasonal shifts in plants and the movement of nature while breathing in the crisp, clean air of the highlands.
The Iizuna Highland area features many other natural spots and tourist facilities. There are numerous locations nearby where you can enjoy seasonal landscapes, making this area a functional highland resort typical of Nagano Prefecture.

As this is a natural scenic area, no prior reservations are required to visit.
Since this is a highland area, appropriate clothing for the season is essential. Temperatures drop significantly during the autumn foliage season and in the early mornings, so bringing warm clothing or layers is highly recommended.
Photography of the natural scenery is permitted; however, please be mindful of others and the environment when engaging in activities like fishing.
Because the site is located within a natural environment, some areas may be unpaved or have uneven steps.
To protect the natural environment, please take all trash home with you and strictly follow all local fishing regulations.
