Iizaka Onsen Hanamomo no Sato is a specialized park dedicated to the beauty of peach blossoms, located in Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture. The orchard was developed under the guidance of a former professor from the Faculty of Agriculture at Utsunomiya University, featuring a diverse collection of peach varieties gathered from around the world. Spanning an area of 80 ares, the park is home to approximately 300 peach trees that bloom in a spectacular display of red, pink, and white. Because different varieties possess unique tree shapes and petal structures, the landscape offers an incredibly rich and varied visual experience. The sight of these blossoms in full bloom is a quintessential symbol of spring in this region.
The history of this site dates back to the autumn of 2003. It began as a collaborative research project with Utsunomiya University, under the direction of Mr. Masane Yoshida, a former professor of agriculture. While it started with a smaller 40-are plot and about 200 trees, the scale has since expanded to 80 ares with approximately 300 trees. The park serves a dual purpose: the research and exhibition of precious peach varieties from across the globe, and the promotion of local nature and agriculture. This unique blend of academic research and natural beauty makes it a significant site for botanical enthusiasts.
The greatest charm lies in the diverse expressions of the peach blossoms. Visitors can observe various growth habits—such as upright, weeping, broom-shaped, or dwarf forms—alongside different petal types like single-flowered, double-flowered, or chrysanthemum-style blooms. Notable varieties include Yaguchi, Kanpaku, Kikumomo, Genpei Shidare, Teremizu, and Hahaki-momo. When these bloom simultaneously, the resulting explosion of color is breathtaking. The presence of rare varieties like Juseito, Yamamomo (Rotouzakura), and Unryuto adds a deep layer of botanical interest to the visit.
The official opening period is typically for about one month, from April 1st to around April 19th each year. To enjoy the most vivid colors under bright daylight, we recommend visiting between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Since different varieties bloom at slightly different times, the scenery evolves from early to late April. While the grounds may be accessible outside this period, a visit during the official April opening is highly recommended to ensure you see the peach trees in full bloom.
Visitors can stroll through the orchard to observe the unique characteristics of peach varieties from around the world. Comparing the shapes and colors of different species is a fascinating and educational experience. During the opening period, staff members are often present to assist with directions and parking, ensuring a safe and pleasant walk through nature. It is a perfect place to disconnect from daily life and immerse yourself in the diverse beauty of spring flora.
The park is located near the historic Iizaka Onsen, one of Fukushima's most famous hot spring districts. This makes it easy to combine a visit to the peach garden with a relaxing stay at a local ryokan or hot spring inn. Additionally, since it is easily accessible from Fukushima Station, it can be seamlessly integrated into a broader sightseeing itinerary within Fukushima City.
As the park is a working orchard/field, the ground is unpaved. Please wear comfortable, sturdy walking shoes to navigate the uneven terrain safely. Regarding fees, an environmental maintenance contribution of 300 JPY per adult is required. We recommend preparing cash for this payment. To protect the plants, please follow the etiquette of not touching the flowers or branches. While signs are provided, for specific inquiries, please check with the local staff on-site.
