Ichikai-machi Shibazakura Park is a vast, scenic park located in Ichikai Town, Haga District, Tochigi Prefecture. The park covers an expansive area of 8 hectares, with 2.4 hectares dedicated specifically to the cultivation of moss phlox (shibazakura). Thanks to the dedicated efforts of local volunteers, the park boasts one of the largest moss phlox plantations on Honshu, creating a breathtaking landscape of pink blossoms that draws visitors from far and wide.
The park was established in 2006. The site is uniquely situated on the earth excavated during the creation of the nearby Suisho Lake (an adjustment pond). This unique topography, combined with the continuous support and cultivation by local community members and volunteers, ensures that the beautiful scenery of the moss phlox is preserved and maintained year after year.
The primary attraction is the spectacular sight of the moss phlox in full bloom during the spring. From April to May, the flowers cover the ground so densely that it looks like a continuous pink carpet stretching toward the horizon. The vastness of the park allows visitors to enjoy the changing colors and textures of nature as the season progresses.
The absolute best time to visit is during the peak blooming season from April to May. During this period, the 'Shibazakura Festival' is held, attracting many enthusiasts. Visiting during the bright daylight hours is highly recommended for photographers who wish to capture the vivid, saturated colors of the pink and purple blossoms. Walking through the vast grounds is a perfect way to refresh your mind and escape the stresses of daily life.

Please dress appropriately for the season. During the spring blooming season, it is highly recommended to bring a hat for sun protection and wear comfortable walking shoes for exploring the large grounds. To protect the natural environment, please follow local etiquette: do not step on the plants, and ensure you take all your trash back with you when leaving the park.
