The history of river transport in this area dates back to the early Edo period, when it was pioneered by Kadokura Ryoi. While it once served as a vital route for transporting goods, it has transitioned into a beloved destination for leisure and tourism following the opening of the San'in Main Line. The area also preserves deep-rooted local traditions, such as the 'Hozu Fire Festival' held at Kitada Shrine every October 20th, reflecting the enduring connection between the community and the river.
The greatest appeal of Hozu Kyō lies in its ever-changing river currents and scenery. During the Hozu River Boat Ride, you can experience the excitement of maneuvering through narrow gaps between giant rocks under the expert guidance of a skilled boatman, often feeling the refreshing spray of the water. When enjoying the Hozu River Boat Ride, it is highly recommended to wear clothes that can get wet and comfortable footwear, as water splashes are common.
