The Honma Museum of Art, located in Sakata City, Yamagata Prefecture, is a unique cultural institution where art, nature, and history converge. This includes treasures passed down through the Honma family, such as items gifted by the Sakai lords of the Shonai domain and the Uesugi lords of the Yonezawa domain. The museum's collection is deeply connected to the history of Sakthe, a city that flourished through the Kitamaebune maritime trade. The main building, Seienkaku, is a magnificent example of Taisho and Showa-era 'guest house' style architecture.
