Takagi Church is a Catholic church located in Hirado City, Nagasaki Prefecture. It was constructed in 1898 by master carpenters from Ukoshima, who were baptized in Kuroshima. The church features a unique architectural style that combines a wooden main structure with a brick-fronted facade, and it is currently designated as a Tangible Cultural Property of Nagasaki Prefecture. While the front was once white, it is now characterized by its striking red brick exterior. The side balconies and arcades are also distinctive features unique to this church.
The history of this church dates back to 1878, starting from a private prayer hall in the Kyosaki district, east of its current location. A temporary chapel was built in 1885, and the current Takagi Church was completed in 1898 under the guidance of Father Matara. The site was once considered for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage list 'Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region.' In 2000, a large-scale renovation took place; although the building was once painted white, it has since returned to its historical aesthetic. It remains a vital place that has preserved the faith of the local community.
