Hizasa Church is a Catholic church located in Hirado City, Nagasaki Prefecture. Designed and constructed by Yosuke Tetsukawa in 1929, the building is a reinforced concrete structure consisting of one ground floor and one basement level, with a total floor area of 671 square meters (excluding the basement). Its striking white exterior creates a beautiful harmony with the surrounding lush natural scenery, offering visitors a moment of profound tranquility and peace.
The region has a complex history where Catholic believers, Hidden Christians, and Buddhists have coexisted. When the church was established in 1885, the fact that no persecution occurred even when the cross was displayed led to a unique historical context where many people converted to Catholicism or groups of Buddhists converted together. The site allows visitors to sense the atmosphere of an era where multiple religions coexisted, a significant part of Hirado's cultural heritage.
