Hiyoriyama Park is a beautiful park located on a hill near the mouth of the former Kitakami River in the center of Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture. Because it is situated on high ground, visitors can enjoy a wide-open view of the former Kitakami River flowing below and the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. On clear days, the view is truly spectacular, allowing you to see the Oshika Peninsula and even the famous Matsushima scenery in the distance. It is widely known as a place to enjoy the changing seasons, becoming a particularly popular destination during the spring season.
This hilly area has played an important role in the local community since ancient times. Historical records suggest that this area has been significant throughout the centuries. Furthermore, there are records indicating that the famous historical poet Matsuo Basho visited this area, giving the park a deep cultural background where nature and history intersect.

The greatest attraction is the panoramic view from the high ground. You can gaze upon the horizon of the Pacific Ocean, the complex geography of the Oshika Peninsula, and the distant, iconic landscapes of Matsushima, one of Japan's three most beautiful views. During the cherry blossom season in spring, the park's appearance changes dramatically. During specific periods, night-time illuminations are held, creating a magical and different atmosphere compared to the daytime.
The most recommended time to visit is April. During this month, the park becomes incredibly vibrant and colorful. In particular, night-time illuminations are held from Friday to Sunday, so visiting during the evening allows you to experience a truly mystical and enchanting landscape. Please note that details regarding illuminations and parking availability may change depending on the year, so it is highly recommended to check the latest information before your visit.
Visitors can enjoy a relaxing stroll through nature while taking in the breathtaking views from the heights. During the spring season, the main activity is walking through the changing seasonal scenery. If you are traveling by car, you can ensure a smooth journey by using the temporary parking lots set up specifically during the cherry blossom viewing period.
The area surrounding the park features various facilities related to the culture and daily life of Ishinomaki City. The access to the route toward Ishinomaki Station and the coastal areas is also excellent. There are several spots nearby where you can experience the local nature and culture.
Payments within the park area are basically cash-based. We recommend carrying cash when using nearby parking lots or local facilities.

As the park is located on high ground, it can be quite windy. Please choose clothing appropriate for the season. For spring strolls, comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended.
Photography of the scenery is permitted, but please be considerate of other visitors and the surrounding environment.
There are areas within the park with changes in elevation. We recommend checking the routes if you are using a wheelchair.
The area becomes very crowded during the cherry blossom season, so using public transportation or a taxi is recommended. Parking on the street is strictly prohibited; please use the designated parking areas to avoid causing inconvenience to local residents.
