Oshima Hiko Shrine has long been a site of profound faith as the Ichinomiya (head shrine) of the ancient Awa Province. The shrine also enshrines Sarutahiko-no-Okami, the deity who served as a guide during the descent of the heavenly gods, making him a protector against evil and a guardian of safe travels. The Hinoki no Shishimai is a sacred ritual performed to pray for bountiful harvests and the safety and prosperity of families.

The greatest thrill is the dynamic movement of the two lions. Performers wear striking traditional costumes in colors like red, gold, and black, topped with large, expressive lion masks. The sight of the colorful, patterned garments fluttering with every leap is visually breathtaking. Additionally, the 3:00 PM performance takes place near the Grand Torii gate, approximately 1 km away from the main shrine grounds, allowing visitors to experience the festival's energy from a different perspective.
