Harumi Shinsui Park is a municipal seaside park located in Shunan City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, characterized by its tropical atmosphere. Developed as part of the Tokuyama-Shimomatsu Port revitalization project, the park serves as a beloved public space. The presence of palm trees creates a resort-like feel, offering a unique contrast to the industrial backdrop. The main highlight is the view of the Shunan Industrial Complex across the water. During the day, visitors can enjoy a dynamic industrial landscape with massive cranes and plants, while at night, the area transforms into a spectacular light show recognized as a 'Japan Nightscape Heritage' site, with lights reflecting beautifully on the sea surface.
The park was established through the 'Tokuyama-Shimomatsu Port Renaissance 21 Plan' to promote the effective use of the port area. It has evolved into a place of relaxation for local citizens against the backdrop of the region's industrial strength. Additionally, the park preserves elements of local history; a stone wayfinder/lantern originally erected in 1893 by Matsunojo Mitsunaga, representative of the 'Kyoeisha' company, has been relocated here. This adds a touch of historical depth to the modern, high-tech industrial scenery.

The absolute highlight of Harumi Shinsui Park is the nighttime experience. The interplay of lights from the industrial plants creates a scene often described as a 'jewelry box of light.' The park also features spacious lawn areas where visitors can relax while feeling the sea breeze. The relocated stone lantern serves as a valuable historical exhibit. During daylight hours, the contrast between the blue sky, the ocean, and the industrial structures provides a striking and unique landscape.
While beautiful year-round, the industrial night view is particularly captivating as the colors of the sky and the clarity of the lights change with the seasons. Nighttime is the best period for photography, as the industrial lights become most vivid. During the day, the palm trees and seaside scenery offer a tropical, resort-like atmosphere. The twilight hour is especially recommended, as you can witness the transition from the natural colors of sunset to the artificial brilliance of the industrial lights.

The primary activity is enjoying the scenery. Many visitors come specifically for photography, capturing the glowing industrial complex. You can also enjoy a relaxing stroll along the coast or sit on the lawn. Exploring the historical stone lantern allows for a deeper connection to the region's industrial development. The park is well-equipped with parking and restrooms, making it a family-friendly destination.
The park is located near the Tokuyama-Shimomatsu Port area, which is a hub for industrial functions. With easy access (about a 12-minute walk from JR Tokuyama Station), it is convenient for visitors to explore nearby commercial facilities and restaurants. It can also be easily combined with other sightseeing spots in Shunan City.
There are both paved paths and grassy areas, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Please be careful when walking at night as the surroundings can be dark. While entry to the park is free, you may need cash or a credit card for nearby food and drinks. English signage is limited, so it is helpful to check a map in advance. Please respect local rules, such as taking your trash home and maintaining a quiet environment.
