Hanamiyama Park is a stunning park located in Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture, renowned for its diverse variety of flowering trees. The park was named "Hanamiyama Park" in 1959 by its landowner, Ichiro Abe, and has since maintained a tradition of being open to the public for free. It is celebrated as a place where different flowers bloom throughout the seasons. During the spring, a vast expanse of flowering trees covers the undulating hills, creating a sea of color. On clear days, visitors can enjoy a magnificent view of the snow-capped Azuma Mountains and Mount Azuma-Kofuji in the distance.
The park has a unique history as a privately owned land that is managed with a deep connection to the local community. Since its naming in 1959, it has been opened to the public free of charge through the goodwill of the owner. As visitor numbers surpassed 200,000 in 2004, organizations such as the Fukushima City Tourism Association and the Fukushima City Product Promotion Association were established to improve the environment and tourism infrastructure. In 2007, the park was recognized in the "Fukushima City Landscape 100 Selections" for its iconic views of the Azuma Mountains and its colorful floral displays, marking it as a vital cultural and natural resource for the region.
A defining feature of the park is the unique shape of its trees. Due to a traditional pruning technique where branches are cut just above one meter from the ground, the trees develop a dense, bushy appearance, often described as looking like an "inverted brush or broom." This creates a striking, sculptural landscape that differs from typical natural tree shapes. The terraced hillsides allow for a diverse range of species to bloom at different times, ensuring a changing scenery throughout the seasons. In spring, the contrast between the colorful blossoms and the white, snow-capped peaks of the Azuma Mountains provides a breathtaking spectacle.

Since this is private land, please respect the rules, which include a ban on organized parties or drinking alcohol.
