Flower Expo Commemorative Park Tsurumi Ryokuchi is a sprawling urban park covering approximately 122 hectares, situated on the site of the 1990 International Flower and Greenery Exposition (commonly known as the 'Flower Expo'). Originally opened as Tsurumi Ryokuchi in 1972, the park was transformed through the 1990 exposition, which gave it its current identity. Visitors can still see remnants of the expo, such as the iconic windmills, alongside diverse gardens that blend various cultures and areas designed for nature observation. While the park itself is free to enter, please note that certain specific facilities within the park require an admission fee.
The history of this park dates back to the 1941 air defense green space plan. After opening in 1972, it became the center stage for the 1990 International Flower and Greenery Exposition. Following the expo, several landmarks were preserved, including the 'Sakuya Konohana' building, the 'Tower of Life' (observation tower), and windmills inspired by plant seeds. Today, the park serves a dual purpose: acting as a vital green lung for the city and a major hub for sports and outdoor recreation.
The park is divided into several distinct areas, each offering a unique experience. The 'Mountain Area' features the Windmill Hill where seasonal flowers bloom, a rose garden, a traditional Japanese garden with an authentic tea room, and an International Garden. The International Garden is particularly famous for its ability to transport visitors to different cultural landscapes. For those interested in wildlife, the Nature Observation Area allows for close-up viewing of plants and animals. Additionally, the park offers vast lawns, sports facilities, and campsites, making it a versatile destination for all ages.
You can enjoy different botanical wonders throughout the year. The park maintains a 'Flower Calendar' to track blooming seasons; for instance, hydrangeas and roses are spectacular during their specific periods. Whether you visit in spring for the roses or autumn for the seasonal foliage, the scenery is always changing. For visitors with mobility concerns, an electric vehicle bus service is available to assist the elderly and people with disabilities (please note that this service is suspended on Mondays and during the New Year holidays).

The park offers designated areas for BBQ and camping (up to 2 nights), with rental options available for food, stoves, charcoal, and much more. For active travelers, the park features a horse riding course, ball games fields, a heated swimming pool, and park golf facilities. Beyond the International Garden, you can explore the Japanese Garden and the Nature Observation Area to connect with local culture and ecology. Near the station area, you will find additional amenities such as futsal courts, hot spring/bathing facilities, and dog runs, providing a multi-faceted leisure experience. Navigating the large grounds is easy via the well-maintained paths or the convenient electric shuttle bus.
Since the park is quite vast, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes and bringing plenty of water to stay hydrated.
