The Hakkoda Gord Line is a beautifully maintained walking path named after its unique gourd-like shape. Despite being located in a high-altitude area, the paths are well-maintained, allowing visitors to enjoy a casual stroll in light clothing and sneakers. The surrounding area is densely populated with various alpine plants, offering a close-up view of nature's exquisite craftsmanship.
This route was developed to allow many people to experience and connect with the natural environment of the Hakkoda Mountain Range while preserving its ecological integrity. For generations, this area has served as a vital location for observing the changing seasonal ecosystems, with the dense clusters of alpine flora serving as a testament to the region's unique natural environment.

The primary attraction of this course is the combination of wetlands and alpine flora. The dense growth of high-altitude plants creates a landscape reminiscent of a natural bonsai garden. During the autumn season, the view from the wetland observation deck is particularly spectacular, featuring the 'Kusa-momiji' (grass autumn colors) as the wetland vegetation changes hue. Depending on the season, you can enjoy a palette ranging from the vibrant greens of early summer to the deep colors of autumn.
Summer is an ideal time for families to enjoy the well-maintained, easy-to-walk paths. For those seeking dramatic scenery, the autumn foliage season is highly recommended, especially to witness the changing colors from the wetland observation deck. Because the landscape shifts from lush greenery to vibrant autumn hues, visiting between spring and autumn ensures a different, beautiful experience each time.
The main activity is trekking along the maintained walking paths. There are two main options: a '30-minute course' (approx. 1.0 km) and a '60-minute course' (approx. 1.8 km). Most of the course features minimal elevation changes, making it suitable for a wide range of ages. It is designed as a light outdoor activity to enjoy nature rather than a strenuous mountain climb.
To reach higher elevations and enjoy even more expansive views, you can use the nearby Hakkoda Ropeway. Additionally, for more experienced hikers, the area features more challenging routes such as the 'Kenashi Paradise Line' and the 'Daitake Climbing Course.' Please note that these are serious mountaineering paths and require different equipment and preparation.
Please wear comfortable walking shoes, such as sneakers, as you will be walking for a period of time. Since mountain weather can change rapidly, ensure you wear clothing appropriate for the current season. It is highly recommended to submit a mountain entry form at the Sancho Koen Station as a safety precaution. Please also carry cash, as it may be required for certain procedures or local services.
