Hachiro-numa Park is a beautiful destination located in Hokuto City, Hokkaido, centered around the man-made Hachiro-numa pond. This area offers a harmonious blend of natural beauty and well-maintained facilities, featuring scenic walking paths that circle the water. The park is famous for its seasonal transformations: the landscape is adorned with cherry blossoms in the spring and elegant water lilies in the early summer. The origins of this pond date back to around 1880 (Meiji 13). It was originally excavated by an individual who had retired from the Kaitakushi (Development Commission) to begin dairy farming in the Mukaino area, serving as a water source for cattle. Over the years, the site underwent several changes, including an expansion project during the Taisho era aimed at the carp industry. While some attempts to develop it as a commercial fish farm were made, they were eventually halted due to water volume issues. Since 1975, a comprehensive five-year development plan has shaped the area into the public park it is today, dedicated to preserving the local natural landscape while providing a space for relaxation.
The most iconic sight in the park is the central Hachiro-numa pond and the striking red bridge that spans across it. The well-maintained walking paths allow visitors to enjoy a leisurely stroll while admiring the waterfront views. The pond is also home to crucian carp, making it a popular spot for fishing. Visitors can witness a rotating gallery of seasonal flora: cherry blossoms in the spring, water primroses and azaleas in early summer, and water lilies floating gracefully on the surface. In autumn, the surrounding trees turn vibrant colors, offering a completely different aesthetic. Additionally, the 'Hokuto City Commerce and Tourism Festival in Hachiro-numa' is held every September, allowing guests to experience local culture.
The best time to visit depends on what you wish to experience. Spring (April to May) is the peak season for cherry blossoms, offering a fragrant atmosphere for walks. Early summer (June to July) is the best time to see the beautiful water lilies blooming on the pond. Autumn (September to October) is ideal for viewing the changing foliage and participating in local festivals. For the best experience, we recommend visiting during daylight hours to clearly observe the vivid colors of the flowers and the shimmering water surface.

Furthermore, the surrounding area features experience farms and tourist farms, making it a wonderful hub for agricultural-based nature experiences.
Directly adjacent to Hachiro-numa Park is the Hachiro-numa Park Golf Course, which features 18 holes. The area also includes the Mukaino Experience Farm and Tani Tourist Farm, providing ample opportunities to engage deeply with the local agriculture and natural environment.
