Hachimanyama Park is a beautiful park built upon natural hills located in the heart of Utsunomiya City, Tochigi Prefecture. The park features the 'Utsunomiya Tower,' which offers a high-altitude perspective of the city skyline, and the 'Adventure Bridge,' a massive 152m long, 30m high steel suspension bridge—one of the longest of its kind in Japan. Additionally, the park's animal house allows visitors to encounter various species, including Red-crowned Cranes, Indian Peafowl, and small animals like rabbits, providing a wonderful way to connect with nature.
The park is home to a massive Camphor tree, a designated natural monument of Utsunomiya City, estimated to be over 300 years old. This ancient tree stands as a testament to the long history of preserving the local natural environment. Visitors may also find traces of historical significance, such as the torii gate and foundation stones believed to be part of the former Akiba Shrine. The landscape design effectively utilizes the natural topography to serve as a peaceful community retreat.
There are many diverse facilities to explore. First, the Utsunomiya Tower provides a stunning panoramic view of the urban area. Next, the Adventure Bridge, connecting the tower area to 'Adventure U,' is one of the largest structures of its kind in Japan. The animal house is home to a variety of creatures including Red-crowned Cranes, Indian Peafowl, ducks, and small mammals like raccoons and rabbits. For families, 'Adventure U' offers high-energy fun with roller slides, go-karts, and large playground equipment. The scenic beauty is further enhanced by a traditional Japanese garden featuring an artificial waterfall and the 'Hyotan Pond' filled with colorful koi fish.
The scenery changes beautifully with the seasons. In spring, the park is bathed in pink as approximately 800 cherry trees reach full bloom. The landscape also becomes vibrant with about 700 blooming azalea bushes. Regardless of the season, the bright daylight hours are ideal for observing animals and using the playground equipment. Due to the hilly terrain, the changing flora throughout the year offers a dynamic visual experience for every visit.
Visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities. You can experience the thrill of crossing the Adventure Bridge, driving go-karts, or playing on large-scale playground equipment. For a more tranquil experience, stroll through the Japanese garden or along the riverside paths. The animal house offers a chance for close-up observation of various small animals. These activities cater to both active physical play and peaceful visual enjoyment within a natural setting.
The park is surrounded by the urban landscape of Utsunomiya. While there are parking lots available (West Parking: 50 spaces; East Parking: 20 spaces), capacity is quite limited, so using public transportation is highly recommended. An 'Omoiyari Parking' area is also located near the observation deck. A walking map is available within the park to help you navigate the different areas easily.
Please observe the following rules during your visit. The use of fire or open flames is strictly prohibited. Pets (such as dogs) are allowed but must be kept on a leash at all times, and owners are responsible for cleaning up after them. Please note that pets are strictly prohibited inside the animal house. Because parking is limited, public transport is preferred. As the park features slopes, stairs, and walking paths, we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes and clothing suitable for outdoor activity.
