The Hachimantai Aspite Line is a stunning 27km mountain road that traverses the Hachimantai mountain range at an altitude of 1,613m, connecting Iwate and Akita Prefectures. The name 'Aspite' refers to a shield-shaped volcano, reflecting the unique volcanic topography of this region. The landscape changes dramatically with each season, most famously during the spring when the 'Snow Corridor' forms—massive walls of snow several meters high lining the road. This route offers a profound experience of nature's scale directly from your car window.

Immediately after the road opens in spring, towering vertical walls of snow rise on both sides of the road. The striking contrast between the white snow walls and the deep blue sky is a sight unique to this brief period.
From late May to early June, the 'Dragon Eye' phenomenon attracts many visitors. This occurs when melting snow reflects the sky in the Kagaminu Pond, creating an appearance that looks like a dragon's eye.
In summer, the landscape is filled with alpine plants and the lush greenery of the Aomori Todomatsu forest. In autumn, the mountains transform into a tapestry of brilliant red, orange, and gold foliage.
The primary way to enjoy this area is through a scenic drive. However, you can also enjoy walking around the summit rest house or the boardwalks near Onuma Pond to observe the delicate alpine plants and the stunning reflections on the water.
