Gujo Observatory is situated at an altitude of approximately 350m in the Kamikawa area of Shikokuchuo City, Ehime Prefecture. The greatest charm of this location lies in its overwhelming 180-degree panoramic view. The dynamic nightscape, created by the calm waters of the Seto Inland Sea, the cityscape of Shikokuchuo, and the brilliant lights of the industrial complexes in the Iyo-Mishima region, is truly breathtaking. Beyond the night views, the daytime offers grand natural landscapes, including the islands of the Seto Inland Sea and the mountains of Sanuki. Furthermore, the scenery changes with the seasons; for instance, in winter, approximately 100,000 LED lights illuminate the streets near the Mishima-Kawanoe IC, creating a magical atmosphere.
Completed in 1961, this observatory has long been a beloved landmark for viewing the local scenery. Its beauty has been officially recognized, being named one of the 'Top 100 Night Views in Japan' in 2004 and part of the 'Japan Night View Heritage' in 2010. Additionally, in 2012, it was designated as a 'Lovers' Sanctuary,' giving it a romantic history as a destination for many couples. It stands as a symbol of the coexistence between local nature and industry.
