Goko Memorial Hall is a precious cultural facility located in Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture, that preserves the history of Kumamoto University. It exhibits materials related to the history of the former Fifth High School (Goko) and the development of modern higher education. The most striking feature is the building itself: a heavy, red-brick Western-style architecture designated as a national Important Cultural Property. The beautiful symmetrical design, high arched ceilings, and classic window frames evoke the atmosphere of the Meiji and Taisho eras, offering a sense of the breath of modernization. Surrounded by lush greenery, the space provides a dignified atmosphere where you can feel the weight of history in a tranquil setting.

In the evening, the building takes on a more subdued, contemplative atmosphere. Please note that many exhibition rooms do not have air conditioning. If you visit during the summer (July–August), we recommend bringing water and preparing for the heat.
