Mount Godaisan has been a beloved landmark for the people of Kochi for centuries. At the foot of the mountain lies Chikulin-ji Temple, said to have been founded by the monk Gyoki under the orders of Emperor Shotoku. There is much to discover within Mount Godaisan Park. A major attraction is the 'Godaisan Park Observation Terrace,' which opened in 2022. From here, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the beautiful Kochi cityscape and the blue waters of Urakot Bay. Another must-visit is the Makino Botanical Garden, which houses approximately 3,000 species of plants, allowing you to experience the diversity of flora up close. Additionally, at the historic Chikurin-ji Temple, you can witness the grandeur of the main hall—a designated Important Cultural Property—and find spiritual peace amidst the ancient architecture and sacred Buddhist statues.

From central Kochi, you can use the 'MY Y Play Bus' to efficiently travel from Kochi Station to these major sightseeing spots. Many other cultural and scenic spots are scattered throughout the surrounding neighborhood.
Because the park features natural terrain, we strongly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes or sneakers. This is especially important when visiting the botanical garden or the temple, as there may be unpaved paths or stairs.
