Glover Garden is a premier tourist destination located in Minamiyamate, Nagasaki City, known for its exquisite Western-style architecture and beautiful gardens. The site is built upon the former grounds of residences belonging to prominent figures such as the Scottish merchant Thomas Glover, as well as other figures like Ringer and Orto, who arrived in Nagasaki following the port's opening in 1859. As an open-air museum, it provides a visual journey through the era of Japan's modernization and the influx of Western culture.
The facility is deeply rooted in the history of the foreign settlements that followed the opening of Nagasaki port. Most notably, the site includes the Old Glover House, which is a constituent part of the UNESCO World Heritage site "、（Biographies of the Industrial Revolution in Meiji Japan: Iron, Steel, Shipbuilding and Coal)". By relocating and preserving historic residences of foreign merchants and other significant buildings from across the city, the garden serves as a living testament to the profound influence of Western culture during Japan's modernization process.
The garden features nine traditional buildings that preserve the architectural styles once found throughout Nagasaki. These structures serve as precious historical records. Visitors can also engage with "Episodes," which are exhibits based on historical contexts. Furthermore, the site utilizes modern technology, such as the "Glover's Nagasaki" VR experience, to provide an immersive and visual way to understand the past.
The best times to visit are from March to May, when the greenery and flowers are in full bloom, and from October to November when the autumn colors appear. Within the garden, the "Glover Cafe" offers a relaxing space where you can enjoy a break surrounded by lush nature. Please note that closing times may vary depending on the day of the week, so it is advisable to check the schedule before your visit.

Glover Garden is located in the Minamiyamate district of Nagasaki City. This area is a wonderful place for strolling, as it is home to many other historical landmarks and Western-influenced architecture.
Due to the sloping terrain and elevation changes within the garden, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Please be aware that outdoor tours may be canceled during extreme heat in the summer to ensure safety.
