Located along the scenic Mukogawa Valley, the Fukuchiyama Line Abandoned Railway Track is a popular 4.7km hiking course. This path offers a unique landscape where the remnants of human history—such as original rails and wooden sleepers—blend seamlessly with the raw beauty of nature. As you walk, you will encounter dramatic scenery including powerful bridges, rushing river currents, and rugged rocky mountains, creating a sense of adventure and nostalgia.
This route was once a functioning railway line before being decommissioned. Today, it has been repurposed into a lush, natural hiking trail. The presence of the original railway infrastructure, such as the rails and sleepers, serves as a living museum of the area's industrial past. While access was once restricted, it is now open to the public, allowing visitors to walk through a space where history and nature coexist in harmony.

There are many visual delights along the route. The most striking feature is the dynamic natural landscape of the Mukogowa Valley, where the power of the rushing water and the steep rocky cliffs can be felt up close. The course also features six tunnels and three bridges, providing a physical sense of the changing terrain. Walking through the tunnels offers a unique, immersive experience of light and shadow. The sight of the old rails still embedded in the ground is a precious piece of history that tells the story of the former railway line.
The scenery changes beautifully with the seasons, offering different views of the valley and local flora. However, please note that there is no artificial lighting along the path. For safety reasons, we do not recommend hiking at night. It is best to visit during daylight hours to fully appreciate the intricate details of the railway relics and the natural landscape. In the event of bad weather, please refrain from using the trail for your safety.

The primary activity is hiking. The 4.7km journey is a meditative walk that allows you to observe both the natural environment and the industrial heritage. A highlight of the experience is passing through the tunnels; we highly recommend bringing a flashlight to navigate these dark spaces safely and to enhance your exploration experience.
Convenient access points are located near the starting stations. You can find facilities and resting spots near Namaishi Station or Takedao Station. Please be aware that there are no restrooms or shops along the actual hiking course, so it is essential to prepare everything you need before you start your trek.
Proper preparation is key to an enjoyable hike. Since the terrain can be uneven and involves walking through nature, please wear sturdy, comfortable walking shoes. Because the tunnels lack lighting, a flashlight is mandatory. Additionally, since there are no vending machines or shops on the trail, please bring your own water and snacks from the nearby stations. For your safety, avoid hiking at night or during inclement weather.
