Fugan Canal Kansui Park (often called Kansui Park) is a beautiful urban park located in Minatoirifune-machi, Toyama City, where water and greenery harmonize perfectly. Designed around the Fugan Canal, the park's most striking feature is its expansive, open waterfront scenery. The park is home to sophisticated cafes and restaurants, including a Starbucks Coffee location often cited as one of the most beautiful in the world, allowing visitors to enjoy a luxurious time while admiring the view. Additionally, with cultural facilities like the Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art nearby, it is a beloved spot for both domestic and international tourists seeking a blend of nature and culture.
The park was developed as part of a project to harmonize urban beauty with the natural environment, rooted in the history of the Fugan Canal, which once thrived as a logistics hub. While preserving the scenic beauty of the canal leading to Toyama Bay, the area has evolved into a vital space for relaxation and a new landmark for Toyama. It is a successful example of urban renewal, transforming a former industrial canal into a modern recreational space. The atmosphere is a unique blend of historical waterfront landscapes and contemporary design.

The symbols of the park are the 'Tenmon Bridge' spanning the canal and the 'Observation Towers' located at both ends. From the towers, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire park and, on clear days, the majestic Tateyama Mountain Range. The 'Starbucks Coffee Toyama Kansui Park Store' is a major attraction, offering stunning water views through large windows. At night, the park is enveloped in a romantic, dreamlike atmosphere through spectacular light-ups, presenting a completely different face than during the day. The changing scenery of the four seasons is another major draw.
The park's charm lies in its ever-changing seasonal expressions. In spring, the park is lively with people enjoying cherry blossoms. In summer, you can feel the sea breeze from Toyama Bay while enjoying night illuminations or occasional summer fireworks. Autumn brings vibrant foliage that reflects beautifully on the water's surface. In winter, the light-ups create a mystical atmosphere reminiscent of the aurora. The best time to visit is at dusk, when the setting sun reflects off the water and the sky changes color. The nighttime illuminations are also perfect for dates or a quiet stroll.

A highly popular activity is the 'Fugan Water Line' cruise. Riding the sightseeing boat to view the landscape from the water offers a completely different perspective than walking on land. The park also features a bird sanctuary for nature observation. For families, the nearby 'KNB Irifune Kodomo-kan' makes it an ideal destination for a full day of fun. Simply sitting on a bench by the water with a coffee is a luxurious way to experience this location.
The area around the park is dotted with spots to experience Toyama's culture and cuisine. The adjacent Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art offers access to contemporary art and local culture. A short trip away is the historic port town of Iwase, where you can enjoy charming streetscapes and fresh seafood. Thanks to its proximity to Toyama Station, the park is a very convenient base for sightseeing or a destination for a scenic walk.

As the park is quite large, we strongly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Please prepare according to the season (hats/parasols for summer, warm clothing for winter) as weather and temperatures can change. While credit cards and transport IC cards are accepted at most cafes and facilities, it is safer to carry some cash for smaller shops or specific events. Photography is free to enjoy, but please be mindful of other visitors. The park is wheelchair accessible with barrier-free paths and restrooms. Please help maintain the beautiful environment by disposing of trash in designated bins.
