Emerald Beach is a highly unique beach located within a lagoon in the Ocean Expo Park in Motobu Town, Okinawa. Its most defining feature is the breathtaking contrast between the high-transparency emerald green sea and the pristine white coral sand. The area is meticulously managed to balance environmental protection with visitor safety, providing a calm and controlled environment surrounded by the sea.
The quality of its water and scenery has earned the beach prestigious recognition, including being selected for the '88 Best Swimming Beaches' and '100 Excellent Water Bathing Beaches' by the Ministry of the Environment. Continuous maintenance of the sandy shores and facilities is conducted to ensure that visitors can enjoy their time by the sea safely and comfortably while preserving the natural environment.

The beach is divided into three distinct areas shaped like a Y-letter: 'Asobi-no-Hama' (Play Beach), 'Ikkoi-no-Hama' (Relaxation Beach), and 'Nagame-no-Hama' (Viewpoint Beach). Each area offers a different way to experience the coast. For instance, some areas are optimized for active play in the waves, while others are designed for quiet contemplation of the scenery. Because it is a lagoon, the water remains much calmer and more stable compared to the open ocean, making it very safe.
The beach is primarily open during the summer and regular seasons from April to October. Since opening hours vary by season, checking in advance is highly recommended. For example, during the peak summer months from May to August, the beach is accessible until 18:30. Visiting during sunrise or dusk allows you to witness the beautiful color gradients of the sky and the sea, offering a completely different atmosphere.
Visitors can enjoy swimming in the well-maintained waters or simply relaxing on the shore. A beach snack shop is available on-site for purchasing light meals and beverages. However, please note that for environmental protection, snorkeling may be prohibited in certain areas. Always check the local signage and rules before diving into the water.
Emerald Beach is located very close to the 'Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium,' one of Okinawa's most famous landmarks. A great travel plan includes visiting both the aquarium and the beach to deepen your understanding of Okinawa's marine life and natural beauty. A well-maintained coastal promenade is also available within the park for scenic walks.
To ensure a comfortable stay, please keep the following in mind: Rental items (such as floats or life jackets) generally require cash payments. To protect the natural environment, please follow all rules regarding waste disposal and take your trash home with you. We recommend bringing swimwear, sandals, and sun protection gear.
