Eikando (Zenrin-ji) is the head temple of the Jodo sect's Seishu Zenrin-ji branch, located in Sakyo-ku, Kyoto. Its mountain name is Shoju Raigo-san, and it enshrines the Amida Nyorai (the 'Looking-Back Amida'). The temple is widely celebrated with the phrase "Autumn is Eikando's Maple Leaves," making it one of the most significant destinations for viewing autumn foliage in Japan. Beyond its spiritual importance, it was once one of the three major Kankugaku (academic research institutes) in Kyoto, serving as a historic center for scholarly debate and learning.

For those interested in photography, please note that because the environment can be quite dark during evening events, using a camera with high ISO sensitivity or a bright lens is recommended to capture the scenery effectively.

We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes, as there are many paths to traverse. If you plan to attend an evening illumination event, please be careful when walking in dark areas. For photographers, please note that the use of tripods and monopods is strictly prohibited within the temple grounds. Additionally, due to the high volume of visitors, please plan your schedule with plenty of time to spare and maintain a respectful attitude toward other visitors.
