Ebino Kogen Onsen is a hot spring located in Suenaga, Ebino City, Miyazaki Prefecture. Situated at an altitude of 1,200m, it is one of the highest points in Kyushu, nestled within a breathtaking environment surrounded by three prominent mountains: Mt. Shiratori, Mt. Ebino, and Mt. Kankoku. The water is a bicarbonate spring with a source temperature of 43.2°C. Historically, the area has been known for its municipal open-air baths.
This region is characterized by a landscape shaped by volcanic activity. The area around the Ebino Highlands is part of the Kirishima-Kinkowan National Park, meaning the hot spring culture is deeply intertwined with the surrounding natural environment. While there were periods when the municipal open-air baths were suspended due to factors such as changes in source temperature, the area remains a significant destination for experiencing the natural heritage of the region.
Due to its high altitude of 1,200m, the most striking feature is the panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. The landscape changes dramatically with the seasons within the embrace of Mt. Shiratori, Mt. Ebino, and Mt. Kankoku. In autumn, the highlands are covered in a sea of shimmering silver grass (Susuki) and vibrant autumn colors. From spring to summer, visitors can enjoy the lush greenery and blooming wildflowers.

In autumn, the silver grass and autumn foliage become the main attractions. Depending on the season, your experience of the natural environment will vary. A typical visit lasts approximately 60 minutes.
The primary activity is bathing in the bicarbonate spring water. This type of spring is traditionally noted for its various health benefits, which may include relief for neuralgia, musculoskeletal disorders, chronic gynecological issues, rheumatism, and skin conditions like chronic eczema or keratosis. It is a relaxing way to connect with the high-altitude environment.
The Ebino Highlands are part of the expansive Kirishima-Kinkowan National Park. The surrounding area is dominated by mountainous terrain, including Mt. Ebino, Mt. Shiratori, and Mt. Kankoku. The area is accessible via local routes such as the Miyazaki Prefectural Road and Kagoshima Prefectural Road 1 (Kobayashi Ebino Kogen Makuen Line).
